When entering high school Susan had a big decision to make. She could take Beginning Figure Drawing as an elective or continue in band playing the bass clarinet and mastering whole notes, so that she could march at football games like her older brother and sister. Wisely, Susan chose her true love, drawing. And with the help of a truly inspiring high school art teacher, she decided the first day of class that she would pursue a career as an artist. After earning her BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design, Susan went back to her hometown of Cleveland and began an eighteen year career with American Greeting Cards. Susan's years with AG gave her a varied background from juvenile licensing and toy design, to illustrating for a variety of social expression products. In 2003, Susan had the opportunity to illustrate her second children's book and decided it was time to make a break from the corporate life at AG and set out on her own to freelance. Another true love! Susan continues to grow her freelance business and exposure outside of the corporate world, focusing on her illustrations for the tween and editorial markets. She lives in a very old house in Tremont, a historic neighborhood of Cleveland with her not so old and very wonderful husband Frank and of course the cat (Puppy). She continues to have absolutely no talent for music but is very confident that her work as an artist will continue to bring her great happiness! |
