Erica Pelton Villnave

Erica Pelton Villnave’s involvement in children’s literature began at The Maryland Institute College of Art where she studied illustration. She loved the idea of using her artwork as a form of communication and to promote literacy among children. Since her graduation in 1999, she has pursued a career in illustration and graphic design.

There are certain books that children cherish for a lifetime. As an illustrator, Erica is interested in creating picture books that will attract such interest and inspiration. Her watercolor illustrations are filled with whimsical imagery, vibrant colors and details that can guide both child and adult along wonderful journeys to any place and time. An animated cast of characters share the variety of experiences and emotions in the life of every child. Such images, of characters and situations, give voice and vision to the stories as they are read and experienced by each child.

Erica shares her home in upstate New York with her husband, two cats and two very large dogs. When she isn’t working on an illustration Erica enjoys working on other craft projects like painting furniture and creating original stained glass pieces. She also loves exploring the outdoors, gardening and taking long road trips to places she has never been before.
